Solutions and strategies to bring about positive changeDomestic violence can be minimised by procedures being put into place in a community. First of all, government services such as Child Protection, the Police, should have access to shared database of known offenders. Be sure to keep a packed bag hidden so if you have a fight with your partner or husband/wife because if he/her hits a wall, he could escalate and hit you, so to prevent this happening, a victim should pack a bag and go to a friend’s house. A victim of domestic violence should always have a local woman’s shelter number saved and on speed dial on your phone in case you are in an emergency. Most woman shelters will work with the police to help you escape your emergency situation. The sentence time in jail should be increased for domestic violence to reduce the amount of incidents. There are quite a few new ways to prevent family violence and the most common one is to join a men’s counselling group. A men’s counselling group is generally run by a past domestic violence attacker. These groups are designed to try and help men overcome their problems at home with their partner. There are countless males which come out of the men’s groups as a better person. Also speaking to a psychiatrist is another good option for all of your problems. |
A solution to end domestic violence could be a longer sentence to jail to teach the attackers a lesson. We could also start fining the attackers after the first time and put them into jail. The jail sentence should increase each time an incident occurs. The domestic violence prevention centre is a support program on the gold coast which is set up for women to call up for help and tell the staff about what is happening and they can also go into the centre to talk about domestic violence and the problems which are occurring at home. There is also a section about men and their problems with violence. Domestic violence will always be a problem but we can try as a community to slow it down. |
